Visitors Guide to Art & Museums in Kerrville, Texas

Kerrville, Texas is located in the Hill Country, approximately 62 miles from San Antonio. The city of 20,000 is considered to be a retirement community although many visitors and families are drawn to it for its unique history and low crime rate.

Although Kerrville is considered to be small compared to other cities, there is plenty to see and do and the city is rich in museums, music, and art.

Museum of Western Art

The Museum of Western Art is home to the cowboy artists of America and you will admire the great works of those who paint a picture of the old, current, and future west with their artistic skill. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Kerr Arts & Cultural Center

Representing more than 600 artists, the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center showcases jewelry, photography, ceramics, sculpture, woodworks, and paintings. There is also a gift shop with unique handcrafted items to take home as a souvineir. Admission to the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center is free and can be found in the heart of downtown Kerrville. The center is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sundays.

Kerrville Performing Arts Society

Performers all over the world come to the Kerrville Performing Arts Society to bring residents and visitors chamber music, symphonies, ensembles, operettas, and dance. Season tickets are available.

Playhouse 2000

Performances are usually held at the Kathleen C. Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts and Playhouse 2000 offers visitors the finest in theatrical productions.

Symphony of the Hills

Kerrville's symphony has 75 players, most of whom are originally from the Hill Country. Four symphony performances are held each year and are typically held at the Kathleen C. Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts.

Hill Country Arts Foundation

Although located in Ingram, it is just down the road from Kerrville and provides a unique experience to visitors. Performances are held both indoors and outside next to the river underneath the starlit sky. The Hill Country Arts Foundation also offers classes in dance, music, sculpture, crafts, photography, and much more during the summer.

In addition to the above resources, Kerrville also has art & craft fairs on a regular basis and many specialty shops on Main Street that sell handcrafted purses, jewelry, and collectibles.
