Art Made With Unusual And Weird Materials

I was amazed by most of the materials used by the artists but the weirdest one, for me, is the insects one! I don't know if I would ever wear such jewellery!

I think that there are different kinds of art present in this list and I want to clarify what I think about it.

I consider some of them as fine art and other ones as creative use of materials.

Sometimes I question this creativity to be real art and in a different kind of article I would exclude some because I would consider them as unusual craft ideas.

Fine Art Made with REAL Insects!

"Insect Art is made of real insects from around the world. They come to me dried out and all folded up. I re-hydrate them to make them flexible again, and then spread them out on a styrofoam board with sewing pins and glass plates."

Caviar Monsters

Vik Muniz uses several unusual materials like caviar, chocolate, diamonds and others to make his pictures. You can see more of his artwork on Xippas gallery

Kate MccGwire - chicken wishbones

"Kate made 'Brood' for her Royal College of Art degree show and it has since become her most well-known work. Initially it may seem like an innocently patterned spiral of some 23,000 chicken wishbones bearing all the happy optimism this material evokes, but look again and you will see that the symbolism of hope has been subsumed by the sheer quantity of materials used. En masse the bones recall a cull, a killing field, the horrors of genocide and slaughter of innocents."

Art made with old audio cassette tapes

"In this series I showcase a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape with original cassette. Also included are portraits made from old film and reels. The idea comes from a philosopher's (Ryle) description of how your spirit lives in your body. I imagine we are all, like cassettes, thoughts wrapped up in awkward packaging. : ) " (Ghost in the Machine)

Sarah Tisdale's Bacon Broquet, Baked From the Heart

"Broquet, a bacon bouquet, which was cooked up by Portland-based industrial designer Sarah Tisdale. Last fall, Tisdale had just fallen for for her next-door neighbor when something brought his spirits down. Tisdale brainstormed an appropriate way to cheer him up. "I wasn't going to get him flowers or anything like that," she remembers, "but I wanted to bring a smile to his face." The two had bonded recently over their love for a winning combination: whiskey and bacon. So Tisdale realized there was really only one option: A bacon bouquet. Her house swirling with smoke, she presented the neighbor with a dozen juicy pork blossoms."

Bric--brac portraits of celebrities

Bernard Pras, is a contemporary French artist that photographs installations of common objects, in a certain angle, so that the perspective results into a clear portrait of various celebrities.

"A call for USED plastic bags from around the World!!!!

The bags in my neighbourhood are mostly white, grey, blues and greens. Occassionally I find pink, red or orange bags and these are very rare. If any readers of this blog find some interesting coloured bags I would be extremely happy to receive them. They will become part of a future crochet sea creature....... better in my studio than in a whale's tummy. "

Tiny Toilet Paper Roll Scenes

"I cut the small paper shapes that I stick inside the toilet paper rolls. I use tweezers to manipulate the paper shapes. I selecte the paper of the same color as the roll. It gives the illusion that the paper figures make part of the roll. I need few hours to make one piece." (anastassia-elias.com)
