Google is a worldwide company that has strong practices in diversity. This international company is known by everyone and used by many people every day. This essay will describe the Google company, diversity in this company, the cultural norm of Google's contacts, the benefits and challenges of cultural diversity, how to maximize benefits and minimize challenges of diversity.

About Google

Google is a common household name, and this company is used throughout the world everyday. The name Google comes from the word "googol," and the meaning of this word is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros" (Corporate Information, 2010, pp. 3). The name Google was derived from this word and it represents "the immense volume of information that exists" (Corporate Information, 2010, pp. 3). This name is appropriate because Google takes all of this information and makes it possible for people to view it.

The mission of this company is to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful" (Corporate Information, 2010, pp. 3). Google extends far beyond just an Internet search engine. Google has over "150 other Google domains," and anyone with a computer can access up-to-date information on almost anything because of this organization (Corporate Information, 2010, pp. 6). This company provides people with information and means of communication in several forms. Google makes it possible to "find images, videos, maps, patents and much more, and with universal search technology, you can often find all of these things combined in one query" (Corporate Information, 2010, pp. 3).

Diversity and Google

Google is a company that thrives on diversity both internally and externally. Google is a transnational organization that has offices in many countries (Corporate Information, 2010). Google employs many diverse people because its customer base is so diverse. This symbiotic relationship allows Google to be successful. Google practices diversity in their companies through their employee policies and relationships.

Google is an aggressively inclusive company that supports diversity and culture (Corporate Diversity, 2010). This company knows that its success relies on its employees. Google expects its Googlers to express themselves, and this is strongly encouraged in the workplace (Google Diversity & Inclusion, 2010). Information is the face of this company and Google makes sure to employ diverse individuals with unique knowledge and backgrounds. Intellectual curiosity and passionate perspectives drive their policies, work environment, perks, and profits (Google Corporation, 2010). Google has a diverse staff to support the diverse customer base it accommodates.

Google is a "global company with international users accounting for more than half" of their customers (Google Diversity & Inclusion, 2010, pp. 1). This company serves the world, and its employees speak many languages to cater to the diversity of their consumer base. In fact more than half of the results Google provides to its customers are outside of the United States (Corporate Information, 2010). Diversity is evident in all parts of Google such as the employees, offices, products, and customers.

To truly maximize the benefits of diversity, it is important for Google to minimize the challenges of diversity. There are several ways Google can minimize the challenges of diversity. Through methods of preparation and awareness challenges can be minimized and avoided.
