Picking Up Hot Trends With Google Trends - Home - Home Business

What creates a hot trend?

"It all starts with an event", says Travis Sago. "Such as when a new product is released."

"Then people start talking and writing about it. And bloggers start blogging about it. And folks are making videos. And soon there are news releases.

"By this time, it has become a trend with BUZZ."

Now this is a marketer's dream, but... ONLY if he knows about it.

SO HOW DO YOU FIND HOT NICHES LIKE THIS?

One tool that Travis uses is Google Trends. In a video he has loaded up to YouTube.com, Travis shows how he uses Google.com/trends. Naturally he gives some examples.

EXAMPLE 1.

Type in terms such as 'deer hunting, duck hunting, bow hunting' and the trends software compares the number of searches for those 3 terms.

You'll see in the video that hunting is seasonal, so the 3 lines that represents search volume for these 3 terms has its seasonal ups and downs.

In a line at the bottom of the chart is the "news volume" (the number of news reports) for these keywords.

EXAMPLE 2.

Breast feeding has a more consistent search volume. The line is not going up, but it chugs along at a consistent level.

EXAMPLE 3.

Antique tractors is another example. He likes that one better!

EXAMPLE 4.

Blogging. Now blogging is hot these days. So he put in a bunch of related terms such as... blog, blogging, wordpress, blogger, video blog.

And just as you'd expect, there is a RISING trend line. Great, because a growing demand is the IDEAL marketing situation.

Now... the question is 'what can you market to this particular niche crowd?'

If you'd like to actually see the graphs, along with other examples of niches and how one well-paid marketer uses Google Trends to explore these things, here are two videos that are definitely worth your time:
