Get rid of Dandruff with Natural Dandruff Shampoos - Health - Wellness

For the millions of people who suffer from chronic or severe dandruff, a natural dandruff shampoo can provide one of the most effective remedies for eliminating flakes, soothing an itchy scalp and reducing inflammation.

So, what exactly is it? The major cause is a fungus, called Malassezia, that feeds on the oils of the scalp, as well as cholesterol. Many times this fungus is caused by the toxins in everyday shampoo products. They are absorbed into the scalp, robbing the natural oils, causing the fungus to go deeper in order to "feed". So, the average person buys a dandruff shampoo to fight the problem.

Add two spoonfuls pure vinegar in six spoonfuls water, and apply it on the scalp with cotton wool before going to bed. Wash your hair next morning. After shampooing, rinse again with vinegar water. Continue this once a week for at least three months.

Mix a two-to-one ratio of apple cider vinegar and warm water (two vinegar to one water). If you want to cleanse and condition your scalp further and add a fragrance to your hair then you can always a couple of drops of essential oils such as lavender or rosemary - both excellent for getting rid of itchy scalps and dandruff. (Always patch test oils for allergies, and always consult your doctor if you are pregnant).

The ripened fruits of Soap nut, botanically called Sapindus emarginatus, are soaked in hot water for 10-15 minutes and then crushed with hand in the same water to get the extract. The extract can be daily used beneficially with no side effects as a shampoo. It gives rich lather and can be compared in lathering property to synthetic lathering agents generally found in manufactured shampoos.

To treat dandruff, one needs to regularly wash one's hair with an anti-dandruff shampoo. An anti-dandruff shampoo removes the dead skin before it can build up. Most of the anti- dandruff ingredients are either acids, which break down the oils on the scalp, or fungicides, which kill the Malassezia fungus, ensuring better hair hygiene and health.

Other natural ingredients to look for are Sage, Burdock, and Fenugreek. Each provide soothing relief to inflammation and irritation helping to reduce itchy and flakes. Shampoos that contain Emu Oil are also popular and effective. Emu Oil is well known for its deep-penetrating properties that moisturize the scalp and provide hydration to the follicle shaft and cortex. Emu Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Panthenol all work similarly and are effective at cleaning trapped dirt and oil while helping to heal and repair.

Flaxseed oil is known to reduce dandruff and just a tablespoon a day on something such as potatoes, could really help you with your dandruff problem. The flaxseed oil cuts down skin oil secretions which often flake and cause the dandruff.
